Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- using the GP online system: Patient Access
- By post with a stamped addressed envelope to send it back to you
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also order repeat prescriptions:
- in person ~ simply drop your repeat prescription into your Practice’s post box at the Security desk on the ground floor
- by post with a stamped addressed envelope to send the prescription back to you
Remember, you must allow at least 2 full working days for your Practice to process your prescription request. To avoid clinical errors and ensure patient safety, NONE of the practices at Waters Green Medical Centre accept requests by telephone.
Collecting your prescription
Make sure your repeat prescription request reaches us 7 days before the due date. Allow 2 working days between requesting and collecting your prescription. If you’re ordering your medication early, tell us the reason with your prescription request to avoid delays.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the NHS App or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
- If you have queries about your medication please contact the practice either by calling 01625 422249 Option 1 or
- submit an enquiry online.
Medication reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, we may need to monitor this by organising a medication review.
You may receive an initial text message asking you to complete a questionnaire and/or undertake some blood tests which will help us to check that the medication you are on is right for you. After this, you may be asked to arrange a telephone or face to face appointment to discuss things in more detail which may be with one of our GPs, in-house Pharmacy team, or Physician Associate.
Alternatively, the review may at times be completed remotely without any further intervention where this is clinically appropriate.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
About pharmacists
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
